A couple of weeks ago I was telling Spencer that I missed my cat. My family had to give him away years ago because I was allergic to him.
Before I knew it, I was crying about how lonely I was and how much I wished I could have a cat to keep me company while Spencer is at school and work all day. At some point during the tears, it suddenly struck me as ridiculous that I was literally weeping over wanting a cat! I began to laugh while still uncontrollably sobbing. My sweet husband held and comforted his emotionally confused wife and we both had a good laugh about it later.
I wouldn't characterize myself as a "cat person." I'm not a "dog person" either. But I really do like both. I've been wondering if maybe I'd be able to better tolerate having a cat around again, seeing as it's been a few years and I'm being super careful to avoid other stuff I'm allergic to. It'd be so fun to have a little critter to hang out with.
One of our neighbors asked us if we'd take care of her cats while she was out of town last week. I was excited. Spencer did most of the cat care, as I wasn't feeling well enough to accompany him. But one evening we both went over there and hung out with the cats for a while. They were so fun and playful. We both laughed a lot. I was careful to not touch my face until I had washed my hands and changed my clothes as soon as we got back to our place. Despite my precautions, I woke up the next morning super itchy and promptly had an asthma attack.
No cats for me :(
I have a sweet consolation thought. There are two cats who are best buds and they hang out in our backyard everyday. They are very friendly and love it when we play with them. Being outside with a cat seems okay, as long as I wash my hands right away after. And hey, I don't have to feed them or clean out their litter boxes :)

evening at the estuary
We needed to get out of the house. Spencer brought his physics textbook. I brought my camera. Lovely time.
there, that's better

I've been feeling pretty rotten the past few days and Spencer has been studying A LOT lately, so it was really nice for both of us to get out for a little bit. Refreshing and encouraging :)

Spencer and I went to prom together. just as pals. no interest in one another beyond friendship whatsoever. no clue we'd end up being MARRIED.
I cringe when I look back at our prom pictures... All I see is a sick, pale, tired out Melody...with braces. At least Spencer looked good! I was really struggling with my health that spring, and the day of prom was a particularly difficult day. I tried my best to tough it out, put on a smile, and enjoy my night with friends. Spencer was such a gentleman and took great care of me that evening. I remember feeling thankful and relieved to have such an understanding date, especially when I was feeling so yucky and out of it. Little did I know that this kind, sweet guy would become the man I am now privileged to call my husband!
I love how God works things out ever so unexpectedly and wonderfully :)

more ramblings
I really don't have anything profound to share or say, but here's what's happening around here:
At this moment...
Spencer is re-grouting the tile in our bathroom with our neighbor. A concoction of ground turkey, veggies, and a coconut curry sauce is simmering in a crock pot. Outside it is simply gorgeous, with the weather alternating every couple of hours between sunshine and pouring rain. Freshly washed dishes are drying in the drainer (yay for the energy to do them!).
Last night...
I got to hang out with my husband! Lately he's been so swamped with schoolwork, so if he's not busy with a paper or studying for an exam, he's catching up on sleep. He's been working so hard. We took a lovely walk around the block and enjoyed the damp, chilly weather...Spencer wore shorts and flip flops of course :) Then we made insalata caprese (fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil, balsamic vinegar, olive oil). It was so yummy! We ate it while watching Man on Fire, which we netflixed (Lindsay gave us 6 months of netflix for Christmas-such a fun gift!). Wow, what an intense, sad movie!
Tonight...
Spencer has a test at school. I'll probably curl up and continue watching Pride and Prejudice. I watch that movie way too much.
I've had a bit more energy the past couple of days, which is nice. I've overdone it though, as I tend to get a bit too zealous with housework when I actually have a some energy. This evening I'm paying for my over enthusiasm. But at least I got some good stuff done! One of these days I'll learn to better pace myself :)
